An exciting fixture awaits under the lights at Cannon Park on Wednesday night as the Badgers welcome Handsworth for another NCEL Premier Division clash.
There will be a familiar face in the opposition dugout, with Handsworth joint manager Jon Froggatt returning to Cannon Park. Jon played a big part in the Badgers’ Central Midlands League-winning side, both on the pitch and later in the dugout, and remains a good friend of the club. We look forward to welcoming him back on Wednesday evening.
The two sides last met during pre-season last year at Oliver’s Mount, where United came away with a 2-1 victory thanks to late goals from Jack Warner and Lewis Chambers.
Like the Badgers, Handsworth have experienced a mixed start to the new campaign. They opened the season with a draw against Retford FC before recording a good victory over Albion Sports. A difficult 7-2 defeat against Dearne & District followed, but the Ambers have responded strongly.
September has seen Handsworth hit some impressive form, winning both of their league fixtures as well as beating Dronfield Town 2-0 in the FA Vase to book their place in the First Round Proper.
The Ambers currently sit 12th in the table, although they have played just seven league matches compared to United’s ten.
The Badgers head into Wednesday’s game with confidence after Saturday’s incredible comeback victory over Barton Town at Cannon Park. That result lifted Ryan Hindley’s side back up to fourth in the table and continued the positive momentum heading into another big home fixture.
With both sides looking to build on strong recent results, it promises to be another entertaining night at Cannon Park.
